The Girl Across the Way
I wanted to infuse the posture of both of the women in "The Girl Across the Way" with the flower vendor conveying a posture of someone who is at work but also watching passersby as she waits for a customer, especially with the rain, in which she is not as busy. The little girl across the way walks with purpose and I hope the viewer wants to get caught up in her journey. While this painting has two figures to give it narrative, the storefronts and signs give the narrative structure and I wanted it to strike the viewer as primarily a street scene, giving the two women agency.
