After hiking through a torrential downpour, I stopped beside this brook to sketch and catch my breath. Mist rising off the water and sunbeams streaming in to glance off the rippling stream made an incredible scene. After painting a number of small studies, I knew the composition deserved to be painted on a large canvas.
