Using local field studies I focused this studio piece on the large shadow created by the Superstition Mountains in the afternoon. Painted simply, I wanted to place emphasis on the large shapes and used the secondary color scheme that was offered by nature with a deep cerulean sky to set off the orange cliff faces struck by the sun.
