The Blue Inlet

The inlet at the Ford House provides a protective cove for Bird Island, the land mass to the right in my painting. When living in Michigan, we spent many hours wandering the beautiful grounds and viewing this inlet which flows into Lake Saint Clair. This painting was a play on blues (and originally was called Playing the Blues). I wanted to capture the tranquility of this area yet also the dynamic flow of water and clouds. Just a touch of color was apparent that day signaling the approach of autumn. This was painted with palette knives.
