Nectar magnet

I wanted to paint this segment of a Bird of Paradise tree, with details of flowers brimming with nectar and some old flowers from the previous year. Hummingbirds are always hovering around this tree, and I knew I wanted to paint it sometime, but catching the old and new flowers was a bit unexpected, as the old ones are usually cut off. I loved the messiness of the old flowers and the shape and form of the new ones and together they were a study in contrasts.
