Oaks Bluff Sunset - Pender Island

This work was commissioned by a homeowner who wanted to have a spectacular sunset they had viewed from their patio “immortalized” in a painting. It was a daunting challenge to recreate the intense glow of the sunset in paint. I painted this scene with acrylic on an Ampersand Claybord. The smoothness and brilliance of the claybord surface really helped me to create the glow in the water and sky. After a number of attempts the colour really started to sing, and that was an exhilarating experience. I learned many important lessons with this painting that I’ll use in all my future works.
