Far From Home
The inspiration for this piece comes from my past working with homeless kids. I was only a kid myself when I volunteered at the local shelter but the time I spent there shaped who I am. I wanted to capture the sense of what being displaced in life is like with this piece. Technically, it was a watershed painting for me as well. I had never painted anything like brick or tangled vines before and the very close values and temperatures of the piece really had me on the ropes for a long time. But the growth was worth every frustrating moment.
