Alpine Glow

This is Mount McGregor in the Fairholme mountain range near Banff, Alberta. I plein air paint out there all the time being from Calgary, and I decided to zoom in to the peaks for this piece. I have a humble little hobbit hole of a studio in my basement, and trying to pull off a 4'x6' painting in that space certainly adds to the challenge. The focus was to try to communicate the sheer power these peaks have in a painting, so I felt the scale was needed despite the ensuing back aches.
