Gold Rush
Aspen forests are common in the mountains of Alberta and one of my favorite places to be on earth. So painting them is pretty much a must. I wanted to try to push my knowledge of color temperature with this piece so I picked a time of day that gave dramatic contrast in both value and hue. The reflective nature of these trees makes them incredibly tough to paint for me. They seem to soak up other colors around them like sponges and offer a level of subtlety I struggle with every time, but I always feel I grow substantially every time I try to capture them.
