I stood in the footprints of Frank Cuprien at Crescent Bay Park in Laguna Beach to paint these rocks that he had painted nearly 100 years before. I was there at sunset to set up my easel, and instantly decided to convey the glory of the sunset on the sea through color temperature and impasto. About 80% of the painting is knife work.
