“Legacy Lesson”

Our local plein air group visited historic Franklin Park in Bloomington, Illinois for a morning of painting. While most chose to paint the elegant homes of interest, I was taken by the majesty of the ancient trees. This one, clearly destined to fall within the next few years, shone gloriously in the morning light. So much of life now supports my awareness of the mortality of all living things and I find myself pondering if my legacy is worth remembering. Surely the legacy of this tree is that it was contributed to good, just by being itself. A lesson to us all.
