The Magnolia Tree
My neighbour’s magnolia tree blooms in spring every year and the fleeting blossom is a beautiful sight to behold. Normally I paint in my studio and more recently I have taken my easel outdoors and this is one of my first few paintings that was done observing the subject en plein air and it was delightful and inspiration in equal measure for oil painters like me. The evening light cast on the fence in front of the tree and the shadows made it even more enjoyable and challenging and I was determined to finish it in a couple of sessions.
